Philip Bilden

Philip is Founder and Managing Partner of Shield Capital, where he manages all aspects of SHIELD, including firm governance, investment strategy and process, fiduciary fund management, capital raising, operations & administration, and the strategic partnership with L3Harris. His institutional investor experience comes from his previous role as Co-Founding Member and Managing Director of HarbourVest Partners, which managed over $100 billion in assets. After starting his career in Boston in 1991, he moved to Hong Kong in 1996 to establish the firm's Asia business, where he oversaw private equity and venture capital investment strategy, capital raising, and client service throughout Asia Pacific. During his 25-year tenure, he served on the firm's six-person Executive Committee for global governance before retiring as a Senior Advisor in 2016.

Currently, Philip serves on the boards of SHIELD portfolio companies including Authentic8, GoSecure, and Seasats. His previous advisory board experience includes numerous international private equity partnerships with firms like Bain Capital Asia, KKR Asia, and TPG Asia. As the inaugural Chairman of the Asia Advisory Council for the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (2011-2012), he received the AVCJ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 for his contributions to Asian private equity.

Philip's board service extends to both private and public companies, including Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII), as well as various military and educational institutions. He has served on the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Panel, as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Naval War College Foundation, and on advisory boards for Harvard Business School and Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

A Distinguished Military Graduate from Georgetown University, Philip earned his BS in Foreign Service magna cum laude and completed his MBA at Harvard Business School. His military service includes ten years as a Military Intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, supporting the Defense Intelligence Agency.
